The 2000 Harvest at Truchard
Vineyards
|
| Tony
and JoAnn Truchard report a banner year in the Truchard
Vineyards, located in the in the Carneros region. Pictured
here with the 2000 Zinfandel Harvest |
| We
have just received the '99 Chardonnay which is typically Truchard
-- outstanding and great value. We are regrettably sold
out of '98 Pinot Noir, but we are receiving the last of our
'97 Cabernet allocation shortly. The '97 Truchard Cabernet
is just wonderful. Having been praised extensively by the wine
press at $35, it is a superb value. Order some now and
enjoy it for the bright deep flavors, but be certain to cellar
some for several years, as it takes on classic flavors that
only bottle aging may impart. |
 |
|
| The
new Truchard plantings across Old Sonoma Road from the original estate
vineyards and on adjacent vineyard tracts west of the winery mean
that we will eventually have more Truchard Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet,
Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir. |
| Truchard
wines are found in a veritable 'who's who' of Pennsylvania restaurants.
Treat yourself soon to an excellent meal complemented by a Truchard
wine at any of these fine dining venues. |
|
|
|
Shiffrin
Selections, Ltd. now has five of the Truchard vintages in inventory
including the ‘98 Pinot Noir Carneros,‘97 Merlot Carneros, ‘97 Cabernet,
‘99 Chardonnay and the‘98 Syrah. |

The
'98
Biale Zinfandels are in inventory with the Spenker
Vineyard a
featured wine @ $28. From old vines in the Delta/Lodi
region, the Spenker Vineyard is prized among Zinfandel producers
such as Ravenswood, Rosenbloom, Turley, and of course, Biale.
The
Biale Style emphasizes the berry fruit character of Zinfandel
with balance a hallmark. Enjoy Biale Zinfandels with a variety of
entrees,
but particularly with Lamb, Veal and even Duck. Certain wine
writers have said that Biale Zinfandels have a Burgundian Style
-- emphasizing sophisticated layers of flavor and power in a velvety,
smooth lingering finish.
|
| We
urge you to save some Biale Zinfandel to cellar. We find that
the older Zinfandels such as the '91 Aldo's, take on classic flavor
profiles which marry well with mixed grill, filet mignon or steak
au poivre. We urge you to enjoy Biale Zins at Strawberry Hill
as well as any of the following destination food and wine venues where
it is served: Dilworthtown
Inn (Dilworthtown), The
Happy Rooster (Philadelphia), Haydn
Zug (Lancaster), Michaelangelo (Clarks Summit), and
of course, Strawberry Hill (Lancaster) |

A trip
to wine country wouldn't be complete without a visit with Allyson
and Rick Schuetz of Schuetz-Oles
Winery. After a fine lunch at Tra Vigne in St. Helena,
Allyson is holding the empty bottle of Esther's
Reserve '98 Korte Ranch Zinfandel.
We also had an opportunity to taste the '99 Schuetz Oles
Chardonnay, which was excellent. Note that the '99 Chardonnay
is from a particularly short vintage with less than 300 cases
produced. Fortunately, we have a fair supply of the
'98 in inventory at an outstanding price.
|
| We urge you to order the '98 Schuetz
Oles Chardonnay soon as the '99 undoubtedly will increase in
price. For the past six vintages, Shiffrin Selections,
Ltd. has ordered a significant allocation of Schuetz Oles Chardonnay.
This outstanding Napa Valley Chardonnay, primarily from Chappell
Vineyard just North of St. Helena, has been featured at outstanding
restaurants throughout Pennsylvania. Schuetz Oles wines
have a story - they speak of superb fruit and wine-making that
allows for balance coupled with outstanding intensity of flavors.
Among our wines in inventory, Shiffrin Selections carries
Schuetz Oles ‘98 Zinfandel, the ‘97 Vesuvium, the Korte Ranch ’97
Esther’s Reserve,‘98 Zinfandel Korte Ranch, and ‘98 Chardonnay
and an exceptional Non-Vintage Port. Try some soon!

| White
Rock '97 Claret named #1 by Wine & Spirits Magazine |
| The
December 2000 Wine
& Spirits Magazine
has named White Rock '97 Claret the best over 400 Cabernets and Cabernet-based
blends from the '97 vintage. We are not surprised, having followed
Henri Vandendriessche's White Rock Vineyards from their initial release
of the '86 vintage. The White Rock Claret has been a favorite
at Le Bec Fin for
a number of years and Robert Parker has recently compared it favorably
to Grand Cru Bordeaux. |
| Shiffrin
Selections, working with White Rock Vineyards, has made some '97 Claret
available to the PLCB Specialty Stores . . . so be on the lookout.
Restaurateurs, be sure to contact Shiffrin Selections soon to order
some White Rock '97 Claret. |
